Kia ora Mosen at Largers. Here’s what’s coming up in our next two-hour show that’s got the blind community talking.

There’s no doubt that Twitter is tanking while Mastodon is having a moment. This week, we delve deep into Mastodon. I’ll explain what it is, how it works, similarities and differences compared to Twitter, important matters if Mastodon etiquette, and some ways that blind people can use it optimally. If you’re already there, say hi. I’m loving it, and you can find me @JonathanMosen.

Following my description of an incredibly bizarre and debilitating issue caused by Eset, I heard from several people who had been hit by it too. Eventually, it happened to Brian Hartgen, who did some investigating and has the fix. Whew!

Long ago when I was a spotty youth, I was sure that amateur radio was in my near future. Then I got my little 300 baud modem and never got around to it. In a natural disaster, ham radio operators perform a vital service, and it’s still used by people around the world to keep in touch with one another and talk to interesting people, some of whom are in far away places. Like just about everything in this world, ham radio has been influenced by the Internet age. So what’s the point of ham radio in 2022, and how does a blind person get into it? I’ll speak with long-time amateur radio operator Jim Kutsch. If you’d like to tell me about your own ham radio experiences and what the hobby means to you, please feel free to get in touch.

There’s plenty more on the show as well. If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. What makes Mosen At Large special is the global community we’ve built and all the perspectives we share with each other.
