Living Blindfully episode 226 is now available to our Plus subscribers. I want to express my appreciation to everyone who has helped to ease the load for me by becoming a Living Blindfully Plus member, so I can afford to hire others to help with some of the behind the scenes aspects. It’s making a huge difference. Hopefully you’ll be able to see that given that I had had time to produce an extra, time-sensitive episode. I’m delighted to be able to do this, and I hope you find it helpful.

At 12 PM New Zealand time on 1 May, that’s 8 PM Eastern, 5 PM Pacific on 30 April, Living Blindfully Plus subscribers will have access to episode 227 of the podcast. This is a 2.5 hour tutorial on Mona for mastodon. I use the word “tutorial” very sparingly. Often in my podcasts, I might do a demonstration, or a review, but for me, a tutorial is at a higher level. It’s about teaching how to use all the key elements of a product. What you’ll hear in episode 227 is a tutorial. in the style of the products I used to do when I ran Mosen Consulting.

Back in episode 175, I reviewed a relatively new third-party app for Twitter called Spring. Twitter has imploded since then, and the developer of Spring has turned his considerable talent to mastodon. Mona is an app that works on iPhone, iPad and Mac. It has been in a testing phase since December 2022. During that time, its developer, Junyu Kuang, has patiently and receptively engaged with the blind community on Mastodon to build something that’s not just accessible, but exceptionally configurable with VoiceOver. When a developer goes to the trouble that Junyu Kuang has gone to, then I have no issue spending some time showing you how good it is now that it is about to go official in the App Store on 1 May.

Mastodon is still a bit new and confusing to many, so as I take you through this tutorial, I’ll also spend some time explaining some key Mastodon concepts and terminology.

If you have an interest in mastering Mastodon but have been a bit stuck about where to start, and you want a really good app for Apple products, then I think this episode will help a lot.

Since this episode would not have been possible without Living Blindfully Plus members, they’ll get exclusive access for three days, then it will go public for everyone.

I hope you enjoy this Mona for mastodon tutorial, coming tomorrow in Living Blindfully 227.
